Folks, when we open our Bibles to the very beginning, to Genesis chapter 1. There we read these wonderful words: "So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them" (Genesis 1:27, NKJV).
Right from the start, God declares the foundation of humanity. He didn't evolve us through some long process of chance. He created us, purposefully, wonderfully, in His likeness. And notice the first thing He says about us as human beings: male and female. That's not incidental; that's foundational.
God is not confused. He made two distinct sexes, male and female, to reflect His image together. In chapter 2 we see it even more personally: the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (Genesis 2:7).
Then, seeing it was not good for man to be alone, He caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, took a rib from his side, and built woman, bringing her to him. She was not an afterthought but she was the perfect complement. Together they become one flesh, bone of his bone, flesh of his flesh. This is God's beautiful design, unchanging, good, and meant to last.
In these last days, there's a great confusion sweeping across our lands, even here in Scotland. Young people, especially children, are being told their feelings determine who they are. Some are led toward puberty blockers that halt God's natural timing of development, or hormones and surgeries that alter bodies forever, removing healthy breasts from young girls, for instance.
These steps are often presented as compassionate, but they bring irreversible harm to bodies and souls still growing physically and mentally. The Word warns us: when we depart from God's order, confusion follows, and with it, much sorrow.
But praise the Lord, in the UK and Scotland, wisdom has prevailed in recent years. After careful review, the Cass Review and all, new prescriptions of puberty blockers for gender issues in those under 18 have been paused and restricted indefinitely.
No new starts on the NHS or privately for minors. Surgeries like mastectomies? Not for children, they're held for adults with the strictest safeguards.
The emphasis now is on careful, holistic care, counselling, family support, mental health help, letting time and maturity do their work. Many young feelings resolve naturally as the body and mind grow. This direction protects the vulnerable, giving space for God's truth to take root.
Now, for those girls who feel uncomfortable with their developing bodies, who long to be more like tomboys, flat-chested and active, there's a simple, reversible way.
I've heard of demonstrations where a woman shows how a compression top, like a good sports bra or tank, can flatten things temporarily. It's safe, comfortable, breathable—no harm to growing bones or breathing. Wear it when you want; take it off when you don't. Far better than tight binders that can injure, and worlds apart from permanent surgery.
This lets a girl explore her feelings without scarring her body for life. It buys time to pray, to seek the Lord, to let puberty run its course under His hand.
You see, folks, you were created. You didn't just happen. God formed you, on purpose, for a purpose. As Jesus Himself said, looking back to this very beginning: "He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female'" (Matthew 19:4).
Your body is His temple (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). When confusion comes, don't run to change what God designed. Run to Him. Let the Holy Spirit anchor you in truth.
Many young hearts are troubled today because the world offers no foundation. But in Christ, there's peace, identity secure in the One who made you.
After the fall, Adam named his wife Eve, "mother of all living", even though sin brought death. Why? Because God covered them with the skins of a sacrifice, pointing to the Lamb who would take away sin. Jesus, our Redeemer, died and rose, offering new life to all who believe.
Whatever mess we've made, whatever confusion swirls around us, He can redeem it. He turns death to life, darkness to light.
Parents, churches, let's love these young ones. Teach them Genesis truth plainly. Offer practical help. Point them to Jesus. God's gift of gender is beautiful, male and female, created by Him, for His glory.
May we guard it faithfully in these days, trusting Him to the end.
